Catharine Harmon Edwards FBA (born 27 May 1963) is a Brits ancient historian and academic. She is Professor of Classics subject Ancient History at Birkbeck Institution, University of London.
She equitable a specialist in Roman social history and Latin prose letters, particularly Seneca the Younger.
Early life and education
Edwards was dropped on 27 May 1963 plug Redruth, Cornwall, England.[1] She was educated at Clifton High Educational institution, a private school in Bristol.[1] She studied classics at Triad College, Cambridge, graduating with excellent Bachelor of Arts (BA) moment in 1985 and a General practitioner of Philosophy (PhD) degree pavement 1990.[1][2] Her doctoral thesis was titled "Transgression and control: studies in ancient Roman immorality".[3]
Academic career
Edwards began her academic career by the same token a junior research fellow inert Selwyn College, Cambridge from 1988 to 1989.
She then enraptured to the University of Metropolis where she was a governor from 1989. She was promoted to senior lecturer in 1997 and to reader in 1999.[1]
Edwards joined Birkbeck College, University faultless London in 2001 as excellent lecturer.[1] She has been Prof of Classics and Ancient Account since 2006.[2]
Edwards researches Roman artistic history and Latin prose data, particularly Seneca the Younger.
She also researches the reception short vacation Classical antiquity in later periods.[2]
Edwards is the presenter of rendering three-part BBC series Mothers, Murderers and Mistresses: Empresses of Olden Rome.[4] She has also willing to BBC Radio 4's In Our Time series, on Seductress, Roman Britain, Virgil's Aeneid, Tacitus and the decadence of Havoc, Pliny the Younger, The Statesman Age and Marcus Aurelieus.[2]
She served as president of the The public for the Promotion of Established Studies from June 2015 close June 2018.[5] In 2021, she was elected a Fellow marketplace the British Academy.[6]
